Why choose an apprenticeship?

As last week was National Apprenticeship Week, you will have undoubtedly seen a lot zak new croppedof coverage about why apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular for young people today. Coming from the mouth of an apprentice you may see me as a little bit biased, but I can unequivocally say that they are a fantastic way to kick-start your career in a range of industries.

ADPR has always been a great supporter of apprenticeship schemes and, as ADPR’s current apprentice, I prove that fact! Our Account Manager, Beki, also started as an apprentice here six years ago.

All of us at ADPR feel that apprenticeships are a fantastic way to recruit the skill and energy that a dynamic PR company such as ADPR needs to operate at the best of its abilities. Having the opportunity to teach, encourage and coach a young person into this particular industry is extremely rewarding, as we provide the apprentice with all the tools they need to further their career, while also putting their skills and enthusiasm to excellent use!

Beki is a great example of how pursuing an apprenticeship will not limit you in your career, and of how they can produce the highest quality of professionals in any industry.  Despite Beki not attending university, she has achieved a series of credible industry-leading qualifications, such as the Level 6 Professional Certificate in Marketing from the highly prestigious Chartered Institute of Marketing throughout her time at ADPR and is a core member of our team.

bekiFor anyone reading this who is currently debating whether an apprenticeship or a university education is right for them, ADPR also had another apprentice, Pete, who went on to study at University after his course with us, so that door will not slam shut for you either, if you change your mind at a later date!

For a business, being part of an approved apprenticeship scheme is a brilliant way to give something back to your community, helping to upskill and improve opportunities for young people in the local area, while also moulding yourself a top class team player.

Now that I am coming to the end of my time as an apprentice (I have less than a month to go!), I can see the real benefit of all the hard work I have put in over the last 15 months. The apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to become a fully-fledged permanent member of staff in a highly competitive industry, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the chance I was given.
