Somerset-based delicatessen meat specialist, Bringing Home the Bacon, has added another top food award to its collection, winning
Bringing Home the Bacon, run by free range pig farmer Anna Mogford from Parshalls Farm in Somerset, produces high quality traditional pork meats. The focus is on quality and provenance, resulting in cured and smoked meats with the finest flavours and tastes. All Bringing Home the Bacon products are available for retail or wholesale.
Commenting on her win, Anna says, “I am delighted to win this award, which is a fantastic endorsement of the quality and taste of my bacon range. The Guild of Fine Foods is a highly respected organisation, which means this will help to assure new customers about the outstanding flavour of my produce.” Judges from the Great Taste Awards were very impressed with the bacon range, particularly the Unsmoked Back Bacon, for which Anna received the gold star. One judge commented that the mild cure of the bacon was especially pleasant and this helped to set it apart from the competition.
All of Anna’s bacon and sausages are free range, truly home-reared products, which Anna has total quality control over. She feeds and nurtures the pigs, and processes all of the products so the range is very much home produced and has SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) accreditation.
Bringing Home the Bacon has won a number of other awards in recent years, including 2009 Taste of the West Silver Award for its Natural Oak Smoked Back Bacon and Streaky Bacon, and 2009 Taste of the West Bronze Award for its Unsmoked Dry Cured Back Bacon and Streaky Bacon.
The 2010 Great Taste Awards attracted a record number of entries. In total, 6021 food and drink products were blind-tasted, tested and discussed during two months of intense judging by 350 judges, comprising food writers; chefs; deli and farm shop owners; food producers; and buyers.
Bringing Home the Bacon’s range of bacon and sausages, as well as special combination packs, are available online at www.bringing-home-the-bacon.co.uk and from specialist delis nationwide. For trade orders please call 01460 54878.
