Press Release
19-03-2007:Pains Wessex and Comet lead the way in marine distress signals
March 2007 Pains Wessex and Comet, the two premium pyrotechnic brands of Chemring Marine Ltd are leading the way in marine distress signals with the lastest enhanced techologies. Approved globally, and manufactured to conform to the stringent SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and MED (Marine Equipment Directive) requirements, a worldwide network of qualified distributors guarantee the availability of Pains Wessex and Comet distress signals in all major ports.
After a process of product review and rationalisation, the new MK8 (Mark 8) range from Pains Wessex is designed mainly for use in liferafts, where storage space is at an absolute premium. Comprising of Handflares, Parachute Red Rockets and Lifesmoke, the MK8 range is more compact than previous products, saving vital space, whilst demonstrating the development of new pyrotechnic technology and enhanced product styling. Also available from Pains Wessex are the Speedline and Man Overboard (MOB)
Comet’s newest products to become SOLAS approved are the Lightsmoke signal (Man Overboard), and Line-Throwing device. The enhanced Comet Lightsmoke signal is now smaller in size, has a universally approved and used release mechanism, and mounting system. Safe to use on oil or petrol covered water; the signal emits a dense orange smoke for 15 minutes, and electric light for up to two hours, helping to locate the position of the person overboard.
Re-designed to a single shot system, the new compact and ergonomical Line-Throwing device is ready to fire in seconds and covers a distance of 250m. Comet’s range of marine distress signals also include Handflares, and Parachute Rockets.
Promoting safety through compact, yet easy to operate distress signals is paramount to Comet and Pains Wessex. Both brands are trusted for reliability and superiority by rescue services, the navy, merchant ships, fishing fleets and yachtsmen and women throughout the world.
