Summer Art installation continues to take shape
The first two phases of the summer art installation are in place at Clarks Village – the UK’s first ever outlet shopping centre – with help from local artists, Joy Merron and Lisa Cheung.
The ‘Garden Tree Room’ currently comprises recycled bottle-tops canopy and customer-made bottle gardens, the Summer of Culture installation is taking shape – thanks to fantastic help from Clarks Village shoppers, over the first two free workshops at the outlet.
On Saturday 5 and Thursday 10 August, visitors are invited to make birds, butterflies and insects in the “creative creatures” workshops from reclaimed materials. The fluttering creatures will adorn the canopy and create charming sounds with natural movements, a treat for the eyes and ears. Shoppers of all ages are invited to come along, be inspired to create a unique piece of art and get involved, from 10am – 12.30pm.
On Saturday 19 August, visitors can make flowers using reclaimed materials that will be suspended within the canopy. The beautiful transparent flowers will capture the colourful light to add the magical spark to the installation. This workshop will run from 10am – 4pm.
Last but by no means least, the final workshop will be hosted on Saturday 26 August, with visitors invited to make summer jewels to decorate the installation. Flowers and leaves will be encapsulated in clear and tinted resin ‘drops’, which will be strung like ‘fruits’ from the London Plane Tree – echoing a change in the seasons.
The sessions have been designed so shoppers can spend a few minutes enjoying the serenity of Clarks Village and appreciating the beautiful setting. All ages can get involved to help create the magical installation using recycled materials and specially made decorations. The session are free for all the family, and materials are provided, with no previous artistic experience required!
