Helly Hansen releases new Urban Rainwear for optimal versatility and functionality in fluctuating weather
A Norwegian-based brand, Helly Hansen and its designers are experienced with living and working in unpredictable weather conditions. Purposefully designed for rapidly changing weather and fluctuating temperature conditions, the new men’s Flex Modular Rain Jacket (RRP £370) and women’s Modular Essence Raincoat (RRP £360), launching for Summer 2023, deliver optimal versatility and functionality in urban environments.
Both garments are built with modularity to adapt to changing conditions and varying activity levels, which is ideal for urban commuters who would only need one jacket throughout the day. The top half of the men’s Flex Modular Rain Jacket is removable, transforming the hip-length waterproof, windproof rain jacket into a breathable vest, while the top piece can be packed away, or worn over an insulator or other non-waterproof garments to offer warmth and dryness.
Similarly, the top of the women’s Modular Essence Raincoat can be removed, turning the raincoat into two separate standalone pieces – a waterproof, windproof cropped jacket and a breathable vest. With their modular design, both pieces deliver maximum weatherproof protection when needed, while still being functional and comfortable when the weather or activity levels shift.
The Flex Modular Rain Jacket and the Modular Essence Raincoat are also built with waterproof/breathable HELLY TECH® Protection fabric construction and a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment. The men’s rain jacket features mesh ventilation for added breathability and a large back stash pocket, ideal for the urban commuter and traveller, while the women’s raincoat features drawstring adjustments within the hood, waist and hem for a customised fit.

Ahead of its Summer 2023 release, the Modular Essence Raincoat was recently crowned a Gold Winner in the 2023 German Design Awards. The highest distinction within the global competition, the award is determined by an international jury of leading experts from a variety of design disciplines, and it recognises the raincoat’s outstanding, versatile and functional design.
The German Design Awards jury made the following statement: “The Modular Essence Raincoat by Helly Hansen enables versatile use in urban areas thanks to its modular, multifunctional design. With this garment you are also perfectly prepared for a sudden change in the weather. This is ensured not only by the modular design that allows the raincoat to be transformed into a short jacket or waistcoat in no time but also by the use of breathable high-tech materials for an optimal interior climate.
