Digital Taunton hosts launch event
With the support of individuals and businesses in the local area, Digital Taunton marked its launch by hosting an event at Company Spaces, a new hot-desking coffee shop in the centre of Taunton, last Thursday (28 February 2019).
Digital Taunton is a community-driven group of individuals and businesses who are passionate about ensuring Taunton becomes a hub for digital innovation and collaboration. This event, which kicked off Digital Taunton’s activities for the year, provided those involved in the digital industries with an opportunity to meet likeminded people and hear from digital experts about the latest developments.
Following an introduction by Shane Griffiths, co-founder of the Idea Bureau and founder of Digital Taunton, guests heard from two key speakers, Dave Alexander from Bridgwater and Taunton College and Tamsin Hodge from the UK Hydrographic Office. Dave gave an overview of the developments in digital training at Bridgwater & Taunton College and the University Centre Somerset, which was followed by an introduction to the way Tamsin and the Taunton-based UK Hydrographic Office team use digital and data skills to support the marine environment, working with marine geospatial data.
Shane commented on the event, saying, “We couldn’t have hoped for a better reaction to the launch of Digital Taunton and would like to say a huge thank you to our speakers and everyone who attended. Digital Taunton is focused on bringing likeminded people together to grow our digital community and support businesses with highly skilled people and colleges with strong industry links. We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next event.”
Tamsin echoed Shane’s comments, saying, “I was delighted to be asked to speak at the first Digital Taunton meet up, it has been an amazing experience. It’s been wonderful sharing the work that we do at the UK Hydrographic Office and I look forward to many more meet ups to come.”
